What Constitutes an Official Translation?
An official translation refers to the translated version of a document, such as a birth certificate or academic record, accompanied by a certification or sworn statement from a recognized translator or translation agency.
Typically, official translations are necessary when presenting a document issued in a foreign language to a government entity or organization as part of an application process. At Linguistic Bridge, we offer official translations within the Greek territory as well as abroad, in accordance with the Presidential Decree 169 of 2/7/2002, Greek Official Gazette, 1st Vol.
Although the terms “official translation,” “certified translation,” “sworn translation,” and others are often used interchangeably, they entail slightly different procedures.
Certified Translation
A certified translation involves translating a document accompanied by a certification. This certification typically includes a signature, stamp, and statement from the translator or a representative of the translation agency.
Authorities and organizations in countries such as the UK, USA, Australia, and Ireland often require certified translations.
At Linguistic Bridge we also provide certified translations for Switzerland.
Sworn Translation
Sworn translations are essentially certified translations provided exclusively by officially appointed translators and are accompanied by a sworn statement.
Numerous countries globally, including France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany, mandate the use of sworn translators. Linguistic Bridge is authorised, as to complete translations for the abovementioned countries and add its signature, stamp, and contact information, ensuring the translation’s acceptance in that specific country.
What is an Apostille?
An Apostille is the confirmation of the authenticity of a public document and is only conferred by a designated authority of the country which issued the document.
Translators cannot issue Apostilles. If you have a document issued in Greece, before submitting it to us, make sure to issue an Apostille here, in case the public authority requests it.
